THE POWER OF A TESTIMONY

All of us can think back and remember stories of God’s faithfulness in our lives.

God gives us these powerful testimonies to remind us of His love for us and to encourage our faith in Him.

But He also gives us our testimonies to inspire others.

This week, I’ve invited a fellow blogger to inspire us with one of her testimonies.

But first, let’s look take a look at what the Bible says about testimonies and God’s purpose for them.

BIBLICAL PROOF

In Joshua chapters three and four, we find the account of the children of Israel entering the promised land by crossing the Jordan river on dry land.

I have no doubt that this event had a great impact on their lives. But God gave a command that would ensure that this story would have a lasting impression on others as well.

God commanded Joshua to tell one member from each of the twelve tribes of Israel to pick of a stone from the midst of the river as they were crossing.

They were each told to carry their stone to the other side of the river.

Once there, Joshua set the stones up to make a memorial. And he told the people that when their children asked why the stones were there, they should tell them the story of how God miraculously brought them into the promised land.

The stones were not only to serve as a reminder of the miracle that had transpired to those who had crossed that day. But it was also to serve as a powerful testimony of God’s faithfulness to future generations.

God wanted them to share their story.

PRACTICAL APPLICATION

You and I may not have jaw-dropping testimonies of grandiose miracles like the children of Israel did.

But I’d venture to guess that we all have at least one life-changing story of God’s amazing faithfulness.

Let’s share it!

I’ve shared a piece of my testimony here on the blog before. And, today, we have a special guest who has kindly offered to share one her own testimonies.

I’m excited to announce Kara Abernathy as today’s guest blogger.

Kara is a beautiful writer with a heart for encouraging others to live lives devoted to loving God and others.

The words she shares with us through her blog today are a testimony of God’s faithfulness and love.

As Kara compares her thoughts and feelings from the past to the present, we are invited to remember that our sovereign God is always working, even in the midst of unanswered questions.

December 15th, 2015 (cue the dramatic tone)

I don’t know how to start this.

It’s hard to figure out how to word what I’m feeling because these feelings are so much a part of my everyday life that they have become something that has transformed into a dull, numbing irritation in the back of my brain.

You see, I’ve pushed my loneliness to the back.

But every morning before work, every evening after work, and, especially on weekends, it pops back up to the surface and inches its way forward, despite my persistent effort to push it back.

Sure, there are distractions–students, co-workers, family, and friends.

Yes, there are moments of brief revival–renewed hope in prayer and in pews.

It’s ironic really–though I continue to push it back, I’m acknowledging it right here, right now. I am bringing it to the surface, intentionally, to ponder, discuss, question. . .
